About Me

I'm Gerri Hoegler, LPC, NCC, LFYP-L1
I have been working with children, adolescents and adults for more than 20 years. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC). I have a Master's Degree (M. Ed.) in Counseling Psychology from Rutgers University, with an undergraduate focus on Family Studies from the University of Maryland at College Park. In addition to private practice, I have experience within several social service agencies and a school system. My vast experience includes a wide range of issues, such as, but not limited to, depression, anxiety, anger management, trauma, grief, parenting, self-esteem, life transitions and relationships.
I believe that each person possesses within their own being everything they need to promote healing, well-being and growth. It is my role as a therapist/facilitator to partner with my clients to find their own inner resources and strengths. Often, as "no man is an island", it is through the safety and acceptance of the therapeutic relationship or the utilization of one's personal relationships (family, romantic partners, friends) which provide the intellectual and emotional space to do life's work. Understanding where one has been, where one is, and where one would like to be- this journey we call "life"- is a primary function of counseling. And making these connections between time and with others is how we become fully whole, alive, and our best selves!
I am an Advanced Certified Imago therapist. Imago therapy is a method of couples counseling that teaches how we are all relational, being who we are in the context of others, particularly our "significant other". It then coaches the couple to use the Imago Dialogue process to transform their relationship into a sacred space of understanding, acceptance, and most importantly, the connection and wholeness for which we all long! I also bring the Imago philosophy to my work with individuals and families, as it creates a safe space for one to create calm and be self-aware, while enabling each person to be seen and heard by others.
I am also a Certified LifeForce Yoga Practitioner (Level 1), bringing yoga techniques to manage moods, such as anxiety and depression, in a gentle, compassionate manner. LifeForce Yoga is based on self-acceptance and recognizes one's personal strengths. Practices include gentle movements, breathing, and visualizations to elevate mood, increase energy, and promote a state of calm awareness. I often incorporate LifeForce Yoga in my counseling sessions (no mat necessary), as it can be modified for all bodies and abilities.
As Imago concepts and LifeForce Yoga practices have become central to my personal and professional philosophies, they are entwined throughout my own life and relationships! I am eager to share them with you!
